Reading or Dr.West New Method
- It was introduced by Dr.West
- It is also called Dr. West's New Method.
- More importance is given to reading skill than other language skills. So it called Reading Method.
- Dr. West opined that if a student learns how to read English, he can manage most of the things in life. Fluency of speech is required for very few people in the society. So he gave more importance to reading skill.
- Both oral reading and silent reading are given much importance. So students have good reading comprehension which is very much useful in most of the professions.
- Only reading skill is given much importance and so other skills like speaking and writing are neglected. So the students face problems in speaking and writing.
THE PHONETIC METHOD
- This method emphasizes oral expression as the basis of instruction stressing pronunciation, avoiding grammatical rule giving.
- This method demands heavy requirements for linguistic expertise on the part of the teachers.
