OBJECTIVES OF TEACHING POETRY
Coleridge defined "prose as words in their best order and poetry as the best words in their best order".Prose appeals to head and poetry appeals to heart. The most important aim of teaching poetry is to give pleasure.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
- To enable the students to appreciate the beauty of the poem.
- To enable them to enjoy the music of the poem.
- To enable the students to read the poem aloud with proper rhythm and intonation.
- To develop aesthetic sense and literary taste in the student.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
- To enable the students to understand the theme, central idea and the moral of the poem.
- To enable the students to understand the mood, imagination and style of the poet.
